We have removed cheques and drafts as payment methods

HSBC New Zealand has removed cheques and drafts as payment methods, from 25 June 2021

Table of contents

HSBC New Zealand has removed cheques and drafts as payment methods.

Friday, 25 June 2021 is the last day to cash or deposit to an HSBC account, any local cheque, bank cheque or bank draft at our HSBC or any Westpac branch.

We recommend that you do not accept a cheque or draft as payment from anyone that you do not know over the next few weeks. There could be a higher chance of fraud during this time as other banks also demise cheques and draft payments.

We know that some of you may be a bit worried about this change, as you'll have to adapt to a new way of making and receiving payments. You've got a few months to get ready, so please contact us if you need help in setting up any of these alternatives.

Please contact your Premier Relationship Manager or call our 24/7 contact centre on 0800 02 80 88 if you're calling within New Zealand, or + 64 9 368 8557 if you're calling from overseas (international calling charges will apply).
