How do I apply for an account with HSBC?

Can I apply for an account if I am not currently an HSBC customer?
Yes you can, you just need to send us the completed application form, approved IDs and proof of address. Find out what kind of identification is acceptable.
How do I make the initial deposit when opening an account with HSBC?
You can transfer the funds via Internet Banking or simply send us a cheque from an account held in your own name. You may also deposit funds through any HSBC or Westpac Branch in New Zealand. Proof of the source of the initial deposit is required. Please note this must be a personal cheque from an account in your own name, not a company cheque or cheque from a trust account.
What is the minimum deposit I need to open an Online Savings Account?
NZD10,000.
What is the interest rate on HSBC Savings and Transactional Accounts?
The interest rates change from time to time, so please check our website, or contact our Call Centre on 0800 80 23 80 to confirm the latest rates.
Interest is calculated on the daily closing credit balance in the account and unless otherwise agreed with us will be paid to your account monthly in arrears.
Fees and Charges may be imposed in respect of transactions completed. Fees and Charges will be deducted directly from your nominated account. Please refer to our section on Retail Banking and Wealth Management Terms and Conditions for more information.
When do I receive my statement?
Statements are sent out monthly, normally in the last week of each month, unless otherwise agreed with us.
What are the fee-free banking options?
We have designed our Online Savings Account so you can choose to conduct your banking in a way that you can minimise your fees.
For example: EFTPOS, transactions at an HSBC or Westpac ATM in New Zealand, PhoneBanking or Internet Banking are all free of transaction fees.
