How do I apply for an account with HSBC?

Can I apply for an account if I am not currently a customer?

Yes you can, you just need to send us the completed application form, approved IDs and proof of address. Find out what kind of identification is acceptable.

How do I make the initial deposit?

You can transfer the funds via internet banking or simply send us a cheque. You may also deposit funds through any HSBC or Westpac Branch in New Zealand.

What is the minimum deposit I need to open an account with HSBC?

What is the interest rate on HSBC Savings and Transactional Accounts?

When is interest paid?

Interest is calculated daily and paid monthly. Please note that for certain currencies where the market interest rates are zero or close to zero, no interest will be payable on those currencies.

Statements are sent out monthly, normally in the first week of each month.

What are the fee-free banking options?

We have designed our Accounts so you can choose to conduct your banking in a way that you can minimise your fees.
For example: EFTPOS transactions in New Zealand, transactions at an HSBC or Westpac ATM in New Zealand, PhoneBanking or Internet Banking are all free.

Which transactions will attract charges?

Transactions via international ATMs, or ATMs in New Zealand other than HSBC or Westpac will incur a charge. Any manual transactions such as cheque encashment, lodgement or international transfers. Branch or call centre assisted transactions. Other HSBC charges and fees may be applicable from time to time.
